Help Erica Coronado: Erica's Miracle Fund

On October 11, 2009, Erica Coronado fell down the second flight of stairs at her apartment complex. Doctors told Jane Graham (her mom) that she had a Hematoma on the right side of her brain that needed to be removed immediately.

Jane was told that Erica had a 5% percent chance of living and would probably not make it through surgery. Jane was also told if Erica did survive surgery, she would be a vegetable at best.

Prayers from friends and people everywhere began pouring in. Candle light vigils outside of the hospital with up to 60 people were held. Faith and prayer were never absent.

Erica survived the surgery. Doctors told the family that the next 72 hours were extremely critical and that things did not look good. Erica was taken off the life support ventilator after just 5 days! Doctors were amazed at how strong and clear her lungs were.

Erica remained in a full blown coma for four months. Faith was never lost. Family and friends kept confessing that when Erica would finally awake, she would be the beautiful, strong, and vibrant person God made her to be.

THE MIRACULOUS PART ...

Today Erica is talking, eating on her own, remembers all of her friends and their phone numbers, and so much more. She remembers everything except anything that happened a year prior to injury. Her sense of humor is off the wall. She is a lot funnier than she was. Erica recently walked 50 feet with assistance from her therapist in Corpus Christi.

With time, Erica may one day walk and run like she used to. The real challenges she faces now are walking and using her hands to feed and groom herself. But, everyday she does more and more. She is able to pick up her Coke Zero can on her own for a drink. There's so much more to tell. And you can read more about Erica on her Facebook page.

The recovery plan is to introduce Erica to some of the more advanced therapies that are producing results for people with TBI, like Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). Since there in no free-standing facility near Corpus Christi, TX that will treat for neurological disorders, the Laurus Foundation is launching this website to raise enough money to buy a portable chamber to be delivered to Erica's home.

Our initial goal is $50,000. That amount will begin to cover the HBOT chamber and a series of other treatments, including aggressive exercise therapy because … the more oxygen the body has and the more the body moves, the more healing that will occur.

Please join us in supporting this very determined young woman and her strong family as they work and pray for the ongoing miracle of Erica's recovery.

Thank you.
